be installed in Lanka. So for this Ravana was performing atonement in the Himalayas to please Lord Shiva. Ravana offered nine of his heads as an offering to Shiva. As he was about to cut his tenth head, Shiva appeared before him expressing gratification with the sacrifice. Lord Shiva then asked him what he wanted as a boon. Ravana asked to take<strong> &#8220;Kamna Linga&#8221;<\/strong> to the island of Lanka, and he also asked Lord Shiva to come to Lanka as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lord Shiva agreed to Ravana\u2019s request but with one condition: if he ever places the lingam anywhere, it would never be moved and it will be the permanent abode of the deity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other gods became worried and intervened with Ravana\u2019s journey. During his journey, the god of water Varuna caused Ravana irritation, forcing him to land his ethereal chariot, the Pushpak Vimana. After that, Ravana wanted to relieve himself, so for doing so, he gave the lingam to a shepherd who he spotted in that area. It was Lord Vishnu in the form of a shepherd named Baiju Gadaria. The shepherd took the lingam, and then Ravana went to relieve himself and ordered the shepherd to not put the lingam on the ground. The shepherd intentionally let the Linga become too heavy to hold, set it down, and vanished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon returning, Ravana saw that the shivalinga was on the ground and the shepherd was nowhere to be seen. Bound by the condition, he was unable to lift it. In a fit of anger, he pressed his thumb onto the lingam that dented the lingam before leaving.
